A terrestrial herb with clustered erect stems arising from a short subterranean rhizome. Stems 22-60 cm tall, terete, hairy, leafy along length. Leaves plicate, to 18, the lowermost 8 or so sheathing, the others elliptic to lanceolate, 3-13 cm long, 2-5 cm wide, ciliate, hairy on both surfaces. Inflorescence to five-flowered, the flowers appearing singly in succession with rarely up to three open at a time; bracts leaf-like, elliptic-ovate to lanceolate, acute to acuminate, to 10 cm long, 4.5 cm wide, ciliate, hairy on both surtaces. Flowers yellow with red marks on the staminode and on the incurved base of the lip; pedicel and ovary 2.5-3.5 cm long, densely hairy and glandular. Dorsal sepal elliptic, shortly apiculate, 2.9-3.4 cm long, 1.5-1.8 cm wide, ciliate, glandular-pubescent on outer surface. Synsepal similar, elliptic, bifid at apex, 2.5-2.9 cm long, 1.6-1.9 cm wide, ciliate, glandular-pubescent on outer surface. Petals spreading-incurved, 3.2-3.8 cm long, 1.7-2.4 cm wide, ciliate, pubescent on both surfaces. Lip deeply saccate, 2.4-3.4 cm long, 1.7-2.4 cm across, with incurved margins to the broad mouth, densely pubescent in basal part within; side lobes gently rounded. Column 0.6 cm long; stalk glabrous; staminode convex, obovate, shortly apiculate, 0.7-0.9 cm long and wide, ciliate.
