A terrestrial herb. Leaves 4–6, narrowly oblong to elliptic-oblong, tricuspidate at subacute apex, 12–25 cm long, 3.5–4.5 cm wide, tessellated light and dark green, shortly pubescent. Inflorescence 1-flowered; scape up to 35 cm tall, purple-pubescent; bract elliptic-ovate, obtuse, 1.5–2.4 cm long, pubescent. Flower c. 8 cm across; dorsal sepal cream with a green centre and veined with green; petals glossy purple above merging to brown and green towards base; lip yellow-green, flushed with brown; staminode green; pedicel and ovary 4–5.5 mm, densely pubescent. Dorsal sepal concave, broadly ovate, obtuse, 2.8–3.2 cm long, 2.5–3.5 cm wide. Synsepal ovate, acute, 1.75–2.5 cm long, 2.5–2.6 cm wide. Petals spreading at c. 20° below horizontal, oblong-elliptic, obtuse, 4.3–4.5 cm long, 1.5–2.5 cm wide, ciliate, undulate on upper margin. Lip 4–4.5 cm long, 2.2 cm wide. Staminode lunate, 8–10 mm long, 11–12 mm wide, shortly pubescent, apical lateral teeth incurved, subacute or acute. 2n = 40.
Bougainville and Guadalcanal; 900–1800 m altitude.
