A terrestrial herb with a stout creeping rhizome bearing numerous long roots, 1.5-2 mm in diameter. Stems erect, short, 3-7 cm long, covered by two tubular sheaths, bifoliate at the apex. Leaves glossy, appressed to substrate, ovate, obovate or subcircular, 8.5-19 cm long, 7-16 cm wide, dark green heavily spotted with black, sometimes with a purplish margin. Inflorescence oneflowered, ebracteate. Flower large, the sepals liver-coloured, the petals and lip dull yellow spotted with maroon, the staminode Iivercoloured; pedicel 4-7 cm long, glabrous; ovary curved, 1.2-1.8 cm long, glabrous. Dorsal sepal erect, flat, ovate, acute, 4.2-7 cm long, 3.8-6 cm wide, ciliate; synsepal elliptic, subacute, 3.5-5.6 cm long, 2-3.6 cm wide, ciliate. Petals curved forwards enfolding the lip, obliquely oblong-elliptic, acute, 4-6.5 cm long, 1.4-2.1 cm wide, ciliate and pubescent on upper side of outer surface. Lip circular from above but dorsiventrally flattened, 3.3-4 cm long, papillose but not warted in front. Column 1.2-1.4 cm long; staminode trullate, rounded at apex, 1.3-1.5 cm long, papillose.
