A large terrestrial herb with a short stout rhizome. Erect stems 40-71 cm tall, finely glandular-pubescent. Leaves usually five, broadly elliptic-ovate, 14-17 cm long, 5-9.5 cm wide, finely pubescent on the veins on the lower surface, ciliate. Inflorescence one-flowered; bract leaf-like, 6-11.5 cm long, 2.8-4.6 cm wide. Flower showy with the sepals and petals greenish striped and mottled with purple and a creamy white to pale yellow lip, marked within with purple, the staminode pale yellow marked with red; pedicel and ovary 3-5.5 cm long, reddish glandular-pubescent. Dorsal sepal suberect-eurving over lip, lanceolate, acuminate, 6.5-11 cm long, undulate on margins, slightly twisted, sparsely pubescent. Synsepallanceolate, bidenticulate at apex, 5~7-6.3 cm long, 1.1-1~3 cm wide~ Petals deflexed-pendent, spirally twisted, linear-tapering, acute, 7-9 cm long, 0.7 cm wide, pubescent within at base and along mid-vein. Lip large, 5-7 cm long, 3.5 cm across, with a broad mouth, 1.5-1.7 cm long and 1.2-1.3 cm across. Column 1-1.4 cm long; staminode conduplicate, ovate.
