A terrestrial herb. Leaves 4–5, elliptic to oblong-elliptic, tricuspidate at obtuse apex, 10–25 cm long, 3–5.5 cm wide, rough to touch, tessellated dark green and grey-green, densely purplespotted below, ciliate towards base. Inflorescence 1- (rarely 2-) flowered; peduncle 10–23 cm long, purple, shortly hirsute; bract elliptic-lanceolate, acute, 1.7–2.5 cm, sparsely pubescent. Flower 8–9 across; sepals white with green veins; petals white with green veins, purple-flushed in apical half, with a few large maroon-black warts; lip yellow, tinged purple, with green veins; pedicel and ovary 4–5.9 cm long, shortly pubescent, green, spotted with purple on ribs. Dorsal sepal ovate, acute, 3–3.8 cm long, 2.3–2.8 cm wide, hirsute on outer surface. Synsepal similar but 2.4–3 cm long, 1.4–1.7 cm wide. Petals recurved, oblanceolate, subacute to obtuse, 4.3–5.4 cm long, 1.2–1.4 cm wide, ciliate. Lip 3.3–4.3 cm long, 2.5–3.2 cm wide, side-lobes verrucose. Staminode reniform, 7–9 mm long, 10–11 mm wide, minutely pubescent; lateral apical teeth short, blunt. 2n = 40–42.
North-east India (Meghalaya), north-east Bangladesh, Sikkim and Bhutan, possibly in eastern Nepal; 60–1350 m altitude.
