A terrestrial herb, 20–30 cm tall. Leaves 4–5, oblong-oblanceolate, obtuse, up to 28 cm long, 5.2 cm wide, keeled beneath, grey-green tessellated with dark green above. Inflorescence oneflowered, up to 30 cm tall; peduncle terete, very dark brown, covered by white stiff hairs; bract conduplicate, elliptic, up to 2.4 cm long, 0.8 cm wide, yellow-green marked with purple at base, darker green towards the apex. Flower up to 8.5 cm tall, 4.9–5.5 cm across, densely pubescent on outer surface of sepals; dorsal sepal cream-coloured distally, apple-green with darker green veins, marked with purplebrown at base and on veins; synsepal yellow-green; petals cream-coloured and raspberry-red with a green apex and margins; lip olive-green distinctly veined darker green, the side lobes white and heavily purplespotted along margin; staminode lime-green with a whitish centre; pedicel and ovary up to 5.5 cm long, dark brown, covered with long, white, bristly hairs. Dorsal sepal elliptic, obtuse, 4.3–6.1 cm long, 3.3 cm wide, pubescent on inner surface especially towards base. Synsepal elliptic, obtuse, up to 3.2–4.5 cm long, 1.6–1.8 cm wide, pubescent within. Petals deflexed at about 45 degrees, obliquely oblanceolate, obtuse, up to 4.6–5.3 cm long, 1.4–2 cm wide, margins ciliate and undulate on upper basal part, pubescent in basal part. Lip 3-lobed, deeply urn-shaped with a slightly flared mouth, 4.5–5 cm long, 1.8–2 cm wide; side lobes 2.5 cm long, 1.5 cm wide. Column short; staminode slightly CITATIONlexed, transversely reniform with a semicircular apical incision, 1.4 cm long, 1–1.2 cm wide.
