A terrestrial herb with a stout, creeping, subterranean rhizome. Stems erect, 3.5-9 cm long, covered by two loose subconical sheaths, bifoliate at the apex. Leaves subcircular, elliptic or obovate, obtuse, 9-19 cm long, 5.5-18 cm wide, green heavily spotted with blackish maroon. Inflorescence one-flowered, ebracteate. Flower dark red or dull yellow marked with maroon spots and dashes; pedicel 2.5-6 cm long, glabrous; ovary 1.2-1.5 cm long, pubescent on the angles. Dorsal sepal ovate, obtuse to shortly apiculate, 2.8-4.5 cm long, 2.3-3.7 cm wide, ciliate and shortly pubescent on veins of the outer surface; synsepal elliptic-ovate, subacute, 3-5 cm long, 2.6-3 cm wide. Petals pointing forwards and enfolding lip, elliptic-oblong, acute, 3.8-5.8 cm long, 1.3-1.8 cm wide, densely longly pubescent on outer surface especially towards the apex, long ciliate. Lip circular from above, dorsiventrally flattened, 2.5-2.7 cm long, warty on front surface. Column 1-1.2 cm long; staminode oblong, rounded in front, 9-10 mm long.
