A terrestrial herb. Leaves 5–6, elliptic to narrowly elliptic, acute to obtuse, minutely tridenticulate at apex, up to 19 cm long, 4–6.5 cm wide, dark green mottled with yellow-green above, pale green below. Inflorescence 1-flowered; peduncle up to 31 cm long, pubescent, maroon; bract ovate, acute, 16–20 cm long, green veined maroon. Flower large, up to 11.5 cm across; dorsal sepal white with veins maroon above and green below, synsepal white flushed green and veined maroon, petals green with a purple apex with maroon warts and purple ciliae on both margins, lip green heavily overlaid with dull maroon, maroon-spotted within, staminode green with darker green veining and a purple margin; ovary 4–6.5 cm, pubescent, green with maroon ridges. Dorsal sepal broadly ovate-subcircular, obtuse, c. 6–6.2 cm long and wide, often with lateral margins slightly reflexed, ciliate and warted on the margins. Synsepal narrowly lanceolate, obtuse to emarginate at apex, 4 cm long, 1.4 cm wide. Petals ligulate, subacute, at right angles to the dorsal sepal, c. 6 cm long, 1.1 cm wide. Lip with incurved and maroonwarted side-lobes, 5.5–6.5 cm long, 2.8–3.2 cm wide. Staminode lunate, 9–11 mm long, 14.5 mm wide. 2n = 36.
