A small colony-forming terrestrial herb up to 35 cm tall; roots elongate, pubescent. Stems very short. Leaves 3–5, linear, obtuse, 10–17 cm long, 1.2–1.6 cm wide, dark green above, paler beneath. Inflorescence erect, one-flowered; peduncle 12–15 cm long, green with purplish brown spots, pubescent; bract 2–3.6 cm long, 0.6–2 cm wide, dark green with a purplish base. Flower 4.3–4.5 cm high, 5 cm across, purple-pubescent on outside of sepals; dorsal sepal yellow with blackish maroon spots; synsepal pale yellow with maroon spotting; petals yellow at base, purple above, spotted with dark maroon in basal half; lip rose-purple with a yellow rim; staminode yellow with a purple central spot; pedicel and ovary 3.6–4 cm long, yellow-green with purple hairs. Dorsal sepal elliptic-subcircular to obovate, obtuse, 3.3–3.6 cm long, 2.9–3.5 cm wide, undulate on margins, often with recurved lower margins. Synsepal concave, elliptic-ovate, acute, 2.5–2.8 cm long, 1.6 cm wide. Petals spreading, subhorizontal, spathulate, obscurely tridentate or obtuse at apex, 3.4–3.6 cm long, 1.4–1.6 cm wide, with undulate upper margin, very shortly ciliate. Lip deeply saccate, broad across apex, 3.7–4.3 cm long, 1.9–2.1 cm wide. Column short, 0.9 cm long; staminode broadly obovate, obscurely tridentate or shortly apiculate, 7–10 mm long, 8–9 mm wide, papillate, with a central umbo.
