A terrestrial herb often forming clumps. Leaves suberect, 4–7, linear, acute at minutely trilobulate apex, up to 30 cm long, 2–2.3 cm wide, green, spotted with purple on underside towards base. Inflorescence 1-flowered; peduncle erect, up to 25 cm long, green, covered with purple hairs; bracts narrowly oblong-lanceolate to obovate, acute to obtuse, 3–4.5 cm long, 1.2–1.2 cm wide, green, spotted with purple, glabrous. Flower 7–8 cm across; dorsal sepal white above, pale green below, heavily spotted with purple in basal two-thirds; synsepal pale green; petals glossy, yellow, flushed and veined purplish brown; lip yellow flushed brown; staminode yellow; pedicel and ovary triangular in cross-section, 4–5.5 cm long, pale green, covered with short purple hairs. Dorsal sepal ovate to obovate, obtuse, 4.8–5.2 cm long, 4.4–4.6 cm wide, shortly purple-pubescent on outside. Synsepal ovate-elliptic, acute, 3.5–5 cm long, 2.5 cm wide, purple pubescent on outside. Petals spathulate, obtuse, 4.5–5.2 cm long, 1.8–2.5 cm wide, minutely ciliate, side margins reflexed. Lip tapering to apex, 4–4.2 cm long, 2.4–2.8 cm wide. Staminode obcordate, 11 mm long and wide, pustular, purple-hairy in basal half, with a central raised knob. 2n = 26.
