Erect terrestrial herb up to 25 cm tall, forming large clumps of up to 35 shoots. Stems very short, at intervals of one to many cm on a rhizome, 5–7-leaved; rhizomes up to 150 cm long, stout, creeping. Leaves suberect or spreading, narrowly oblong, rounded and minutely tridenticulate at apex, 12–30 cm long, 2.5–4 cm broad, coriaceous, light green with darker green venation. Inflorescence erect, 1-flowered, up to 25 cm long; peduncle purple, glandular-pubescent; bract ovate, obtuse, 1.2 cm long, green, pubescent, with purple hairs. Flower showy, spreading, 6-6.5 cm across, greenish yellow, yellow or chartreuse, lined on the dorsal sepal and petals with a conspicuous central maroon or maroon-brown streak, lip yellow to honey-yellow; ovary 5 cm long, 0.8 cm in diameter, purple-brown. Dorsal sepal curved forwards over the lip, elliptic or ovate, obtuse, 3–4.5 cm long, 2.5–3.6 cm broad, pubescent, margins shortly ciliate. Synsepal ovate, obtuse, 2.7–3.8cm long, 2–2.7 cm broad, pubescent. Petals incurved-porrect, narrowly oblong to subelliptic, prominently tridentate at apex, slightly drooping, often dilated towards apex, 4–4.5 cm long, 1.3–2.1 cm broad, pubescent with longer purple hairs towards the base, margins undulate and reflexed. Lip obscurely 3-lobed, slipper-shaped, slightly compressed, 3.5–4.5 cm long, 1.2–2 cm broad, auriculate, side-lobes incurved, almost touching, 0.6 cm long. Column short. Staminode obcordate, 10–12 mm long and wide, with a small raised boss just below centre. 2n = 26, 30.
