A terrestrial herb. Leaves 6–8, elliptic, oblanceolate or oblong-elliptic, tridenticulate at obtuse apex, 7–14 cm long, 2.5–4 cm wide, boldly tessellated dark and pale green above, sometimes flushed with purple below. Inflorescence erect, 1-flowered; peduncle 20–55 cm long, green and purple, pubescent; bract ovate-elliptic, acute 1.5–2.1 cm long, ciliate. Flower up to 9.5 cm across; sepals white with green veins; often dark purple-marked at base of dorsal; petals green at base, purple above, with dark maroon-black spotting on margins and sometimes on the lamina of basal half; lip ochre to greenish; ovary and pedicel 4–6 cm long, pubescent. Dorsal sepal usually concave, ovate, acute, 2.4–3 cm long, 1.4–2.2 cm wide, shortly pubescent on outer surface. Synsepal lanceolate, acute, 1.9–2.5 cm long, 1–1.5 cm wide. Petals spathulate to oblanceolate, obtuse, 3.8–5.2 cm long, 0.9–1.4 cm wide, ciliate. Lip 3–4 cm long, emarginate at apex. Staminode subcircular to subrhombic, deeply incised at apex, 6–9 mm long, 6–8 mm wide, lateral teeth subparallel to spreading, ± with a short tooth in apical sinus. 2n = 40.
