A terrestrial herbwith slender, erect, leafy, glandular-pubescent stems 2–3 m tall, branching in the apical part. Leaves subcoriaceous, linearlanceolate or lanceolate, acuminate, 10–20 cm long, 0.8–2.3 cm broad, the upper leaves progressively narrower, very finely pubescent on upper surface, glandular on lower surface and margins. Inflorescence terminal, flowering successively on a nutant raceme; rachis densely pubescent; bracts lanceolate, acute or acuminate, 1.5–3.2 cm long, glandular-pubescent. Flowers variable in size, pubescent on outer surface of sepals, glabrous within, subnutant, sepals maroon-bronze, the lateral sepals somewhat lighter, the petals olive-green, lip yellow-brown with a paler base or shiny chestnut-brown with a yellow-green base, marked with a dark maroon spot on either side of the orifice; pedicel and ovary 1.3–2 cm long, densely pubescent. Dorsal sepal erect to hooded over lip and column, ovate-elliptic, obtuse, 2.5–4.2 cm long, 1.3–2.5 cm broad, slightly pubescent on outer surface. Synsepal elliptic or ovate-elliptic, minutely bifid at obtuse apex, 2.5–3.5 cm long, 1.3–2.3 cm broad, pubescent on outer surface. Petals spreading-deflexed and somewhat incurved, linear-lanceolate, subacute, 2.4–3.2 cm long, 0.4–0.5 cm broad. Lip calceiform, somewhat dorsi-ventrally flattened, subnutant, 2–3.6 cm long, 1.4–2.2 cm broad, sometimes with an inflated rim, margins incurved forming an obovate orifice, with incurved rounded side lobes. Column 5–7 mm long, yellow-green; stigma, papillate; staminode ovate, acute, 2 mm long, stalked.
