A terrestrial herb with erect leafy stems 0.5–2 m tall, often sparsely branching above; stems dark green, covered by coarsely and densely glandular-villose leaf-bases. Leaves oblanceolate to elliptic-lanceolate, acuminate, cuneate at base of lamina, 10–25 cm long, 2–7 cm broad, dark green, glabrous above, hairy beneath, ciliate, about 8-nerved, sheathing at base; sheaths glabrous. Inflorescence terminal, 10–27 cm long, densely many-flowered; bracts chartaceous, ovate-lanceolate to ovate, acute, 0.6–2 cm long, coarsely shortly hairy, ciliate. Flowers small; sepals and petals light yellow-green to dull pale fawn, lip dark yellow, marked with two maroon spots near apex of rim of orifice and spotted within with purple; pedicel and ovary triangular in cross section, 1.5–4 cm long, pubescent on ridges. Dorsal sepal narrowly elliptic-ovate, obtuse, 1.8–2.5 cm long, 0.8–1.5 cm broad. Synsepal elliptic-ovate, bidentate at apex, 1.5–2.3 cm long, 1–1.6 cm broad, pilose on outer surface. Petals obliquely linear-lanceolate, acute, 2–2.6 cm long, 0.15–0.3 cm broad. Lip calceolate, broadly elliptic in outline, 2.3–2.7 cm long, 1.5–1.8 cm broad. Column 0.5–0.6 cm long; staminode ovate, truncate, slightly longer than the stigma. Fruit cylindrical, slightly arcuate, 5–9 cm long, triangular in section.
