A striking new species of slipper orchid, Cypripedium lentiginosum, has been found in south-eastern Yunnan. This is well outside the previously reported distribution of this largely temperate genus, but within the distributional range of the related genus Paphiopedilum, which has a predominantly tropical distribution in South-east Asia and the adjacent islands. Dr Phillip Cribb & Chen Sing-chi describe this interesting plant.
