Abstract:

A new orchid species originating from Sulawesi (Celebes) is described. The species belongs to the genus Paphiopedilum Pfitzer, subgenus Sigmatopetalum Hallier, section Blepharopetalum Pfitzer. Although clearly related to Paphiopedilum papuanum (Ridley ex Rendle) L.O. Williams and Paphiopedilum violascens Schlechter, the new species is quite different in a number of floral characteristics and is named Paphiopedilum sangii in honour of Mr. Helmut SANG of Essen.
